This season is named after the legend of the Chumbus, an enigmatic but kind-hearted being who is said to live in a cavern in the forest. She spends the year collecting materials and ingredients to make gifts of woven charms, berries, and spices, which she delivers on chumbus eve to any kindhearted ranebopets. She stuffs her coat with hay to keep warm for the winter.
The story of Chumbus goes that, in a small snowy town in the mountains, the local townspeople noticed hay going missing from their stocks. there was talk of a fearsome beast dwelling in a cave nearby who was to blame, and the townspeople were frightened. One midnight in winter, the farmers of the town finally caught the hay thief. It was a tall, thin creature with bare patches of fur who looked very cold. They saw her need and instead of punishing her, they welcomed her in, warmed her up with hot spiced drinks, and offered her as much hay as she needed.
The chumbus was so grateful that she returned 12 days later to bestow the whole town with gifts as thanks for their generosity. Always help a friend in need!
