OH MAN where do I begin with this. As soon as the game dropped and I got to play I knew I wanted to write in one of my ranebos being there: the game was evocative while leaving a TON of room for detail I wanted to fill in. I chose Xiè Lín pretty early on: I went to the cemetery first in my playthrough, which is exactly what they would have done. I was already filling in their thoughts and emotions as I played through. What really sealed the deal was the drajin being ghosts: Xiè Lín is based on a jiangshi, a Chinese undead monster similar to a vampire, so I always imagined they were resurrected through strange and probably lore non-compliant means. I thought the reveal at the end really suited an overall theme of Xiè Lín longing for companionship. They live in a mausoleum in an abandoned grave yard, after all, they were always meant to be secluded and a bit lonely. They want to hold themself as this creepy, mysterious, cryptid-esque guy, but that necessitates not really being social. The concept of a monster desiring companionship is very good and rules. Mary Shelley knew what was up. ALSO I had fun writing this gross derelict creepy mansion where Xiè Lín is like. NOT impressed, because they consider themself much scarier anyway. It was only on a reread that I realized how genuinely world-shattering the events at the manor could have been. I guess I had just forgotten? This did take me [looks at notes] over two weeks to finish. I really hope this lore gets expanded on more in later events!! It's really cool and I want to know where Macula went. Mods give Seventhbard rights. Overall I had a lot of fun with this! I'm gonna consider it canon to Xiè Lín's story now. Aeolian assigned as friend now. Thank you.
